Description
The Way Marked by Joy is the first sermon in a four-sermon series using Acts as the foundation . Joy characterized the life of first-century and can do the same for modern-day Christians. This series was originally planned from September 4 to October 30, from Labor Day weekend to All Saints Day. In it, I sought to connect joy with vocation, authenticity, intimacy, gratitude, resilience and sorrow both in within ourselves and also within our relationships with others whether familial or out in the broad circles of the world.
This first sermon in the series asks, “Can the stories of Acts still keep us on the Way of Jesus giving us discernment about our flatness, enlisting us in the odd Way of the first Christians who trusted and experienced wonder and hope as they believed in the risen Lord Jesus?” The answer is a resounding yes! We desire the Holy Spirit because of the joy it brings to our lives. Getting more stuff doesn’t bring joy, but getting more Jesus does.

Personal Note From Dave Milam
I hoped that the series would be meaningful personally to members of my congregation as well as being meaningful in the compelling drama of the national election. My church, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Purcellville, Virginia is Loudoun County near Washington, DC. We are a 300 member congregation with approximately 120 present in weekly worship.
The Way Marked By Joy series stands as a significant resource for Christians to keep encouraged, active, and faithful. I believe The Way Of Joy remains a compelling, relevant resource for the church and its members seeking to be resilient in our turbulent times.
With Joy and Gratitude,
Rev. Dr. David Milam, Pastor
St. Andrew Presbyterian Church
