Description
There is a chapter in the Old Testament with a story that seems a little odd. However, it contains a powerful principle. It is the story of a mean man named Nabal. Importantly, the message found in this story is “Look for the good” (1 Samuel 25:14-38).
Do you find this Nabal-filled world hard to stomach? Then, do what David did and stop staring at Nabal; look at the good. Abigail’s kindness caught King David off guard. It literally threw him off course. Like a modern-day road rage story, David was on the road to destroy Nabal, but David’s anger was turned away, by the unexpected act of this intelligent woman. She caused him to turn his focus from evil toward good… to look more at the mediator and less at the troublemaker. Jesus is our mediator. He is our connection to a God that loves us. Use this sermon to challenge your congregation to turn their gaze toward Jesus.
